Margaret Vale had represented Aunt Evelyn Bennett for twelve years.
Claire remembered her as calm, polished, almost maternal.
She had hugged Claire at the funeral.
Told her Evelyn admired her.
Promised estate matters would take time but would eventually be resolved.
Claire had trusted her.
Now Detective Foster played the recovered recording.

“Keep it that way.”
