The first footage looked ordinary.
That was its power.
A black SUV behind a silver sedan.
Streetlights reflected in wet pavement.
Traffic moving through Chicago.
No masked attackers.
No violence.
No dramatic chase.
Only repetition.
The same SUV through multiple intersections.
The same distance maintained.
The same vehicle entering Mercer Urban Holdings’ garage later that night.
Judge Ruiz leaned forward.
Daniel’s attorney stood.
“We object to foundation and authentication.”
Maya remained seated.
“Metadata certification is included in the evidentiary packet.”
The clerk continued playback.
A map appeared without readable labels.
Then synchronized camera angles.
The SUV.
My vehicle.
The temporary barrier placed ahead.
Daniel’s face changed with each clip.
He had expected the missing dashcam card to end the story.
He had not expected the cloud.
Then the audio played.
“Make it look like a robbery.”
The courtroom turned toward him.
Daniel removed his foot from mine and stood too quickly.
“That is edited.”
Judge Ruiz said, “Sit down.”
“Maya fabricated this.”
Maya placed one hand over the blue folder.
Daniel’s eyes moved toward the flash drive.
He lunged.
Not at me.
At the evidence.
The distinction did not help him.
Judge Ruiz struck the gavel.
“Deputies, restrain Mr. Mercer.”
Two deputies moved from the rear doors.
Daniel tried to pull away as they caught his arms.
“This is a divorce hearing.”
Judge Ruiz’s voice became cold.
“It was.”
Daniel looked toward his attorney.
The attorney stepped back.
Not far.
Enough.
Maya noticed.
So did Daniel.
People who benefit from confidence often retreat quickly when confidence becomes evidence.
One deputy secured Daniel’s wrists.
He stopped shouting aloud only when he saw the second file waiting on the screen.
Then he looked at me.
I touched the monitor control.
“The second file names the driver.”
Daniel’s anger vanished.
