The ice water hit Claire Mercer like a public sentence.
It poured over her hair, her shoulders, her ivory maternity dress, and the curve of her eight-month-pregnant belly while crystal glasses rattled across the dark dining table.
Claire gasped and wrapped both hands protectively over her stomach.
Across from her, Daniel Whitmore laughed.
Beside him, Vanessa Cole lifted her wineglass like the humiliation was entertainment.

“Daniel… why is Argent calling all of us?” Vanessa whispered.
The dining-room doors opened behind Claire.
Chief Legal Officer Marcus Reed entered with two corporate security investigators.
He stopped behind Claire, carrying a sealed black folder.
“Preserve every device. Your access is suspended pending investigation.”
Daniel’s phone slipped in his hand.
Eleanor sat frozen beside the empty bucket.
