He became temporary manager because Bethany was Caleb’s mother and Daniel handled household finances.

Daniel had already been stealing from his own son.

“You were a child in a room controlled by grown-ups,” Michael said. “Your job now is to tell the truth. That is enough.”
Caleb began crying.
Mara stayed beside him.

Police recovered it during a second search.
Inside were copies of Rosie’s accusation card, forged therapy notes, blank medical forms, and photographs of Michael drinking wine at family dinners.

Daniel laughed.

His voice changed when Bethany entered.
He became warm and affectionate instantly.

Canadian authorities forced Harold’s aircraft to land in Ottawa.

Harold had built multiple guardianship candidates so Rosie’s money would remain accessible regardless of which relatives became disqualified.
Lena traced Victor Lane to Boston.
His office was empty.
His home had been cleared.
A secure email on the Canadian server showed he had contacted Daniel the morning after the party.

Michael looked at Lena.
“Can he still petition?”
“Anyone can file. Winning is another matter.”
“Unless the judge belongs to them.”
Judge Price had been suspended, but the network contained others.
Before Lena could act, an emergency petition appeared in federal court.
It challenged her trusteeship and requested that Rosie enter protective residential custody while the adults’ crimes were investigated.
The petitioner was Victor Lane.
Attached was Daniel’s full cooperation statement.
Daniel claimed he had participated only because Harold threatened Caleb.
He now presented himself as the parent who exposed the scheme.
The filing omitted the footage showing him arranging Rosie’s injuries.
Then the federal evidence system reported a breach.
The full birthday video had been replaced with Daniel’s edited version.
