Teresa’s network began collapsing.

Judge Wren’s orders entered review.
No final convictions or custody outcomes appeared.
The legal system moved slowly, and many officials connected to the archive challenged the evidence.
Teresa remained missing.
Theresa, Betsy, and Mason remained under investigation.
Laura and Hannah were receiving independent care.
Caleb had not decided whether he wanted to meet Connor.
Connor respected the boundary.
Amy remained beside Frederick.
The child’s fever finally broke during the night.
For the first time since the party, his skin felt cool beneath her palm.
Connor sat beside the crib.
“I brought a birthday cake and almost arrived too late.”
Amy looked at him.
“You arrived when you saw us.”
“I should have seen sooner.”
“Yes.”
She did not erase the failure to comfort him.

Inside was a handwritten letter.
Connor, if the safeguard activates, do not celebrate. Teresa was not the architect. She was the first successful client.
Frederick Senior explained that Ridgeway existed before Teresa joined the Hale family.
Dr. Vale had recruited her and Theresa as teenagers after their own mother disappeared.
The twins were taught to preserve family power through substitutions, controlled pregnancies, and rewritten identities.
Teresa later expanded the methods into corporate succession.
The original architect remained hidden.
Frederick Senior identified the person only as The Host.
The Host attended every major family event where a transfer occurred.

Funerals.
First birthdays.
Connor requested guest photographs from Frederick’s party.
Most relatives had been identified.
One elderly man appeared in the background of seventeen images. He stood near the liquor table, the kitchen entrance, the driveway, and Mason’s escape route.
No one remembered inviting him.
Facial recognition linked him to Dr. Charles Vale.
But Vale was at the Kentucky facility during part of the party.
The man could not have been in both places.
Unless Vale had a double.
Or the person in Kentucky had been another substitute.
The stranger’s jacket carried a small pin bearing the logo of Connor’s catering company.
Investigators contacted the caterer.
The company had been purchased two weeks earlier by a shell corporation.
Its beneficial owner was Frederick Hale Senior.
Connor stared at the record.
His father had been dead for five years.
The stranger left the party in a black sedan registered under Frederick Senior’s active founder identity.
Then Connor’s phone received a video call.
His father appeared on-screen.
Older.
Alive.
“Do not let Amy open the last document,” Frederick Senior said.
