Connor had never heard of her.
The profile listed Mason as biological father and Selene Rowe as gestational carrier.
Mason stared at the screen.
“I don’t know Selene.”
Betsy did.
Selene was Hannah’s younger sister.
Teresa had used both of Betsy’s daughters.
Betsy began shaking.
“She told me Selene left the country.”
Financial records showed Selene living at a private Hale Meridian residence in North Carolina with a three-year-old girl.
Mason’s reproductive material had been collected during the same family screening as Connor’s.
Mason had not consented to fatherhood.
Yet he had helped Teresa hide Hannah and Caleb while remaining unaware another child had been created from him.
The method turned every participant into both accomplice and victim.
Connor refused to let Mason use victimhood to erase his choices.
“You still blocked Amy in that kitchen.”
“Yes.”
“You still tried to steal the deed.”
“Yes.”
“You still helped keep Hannah confined.”
Mason lowered his head.
“Yes.”
The birth certificates in the metal case carried multiple versions of each child’s identity.
Frederick’s original certificate named Connor and Amy.
A second version left Amy’s name blank.
A third named Teresa as court-appointed guardian and changed Frederick’s surname to Hale-Wren.
Caleb had documents naming Hannah, Betsy, and an anonymous surrogate as mother, depending on which story became useful.
Mia’s certificate remained unsigned.
The conspirators did not merely hide children.
They preserved alternate legal histories, ready to activate whichever one produced the desired outcome.
The final profile required a password linked to Laura Bennett—Amy’s mother.
Amy entered Laura’s birthday.
The file opened.
It contained a photograph of Amy at age sixteen beside Dr. Charles Vale and Teresa.
Amy had no memory of the meeting.

Dr. Vale compared their psychological responses, health, fertility, and willingness to accept guilt.

Amy stared at the screen.
“Teresa killed my mother.”

Betsy began crying harder.
“I heard them argue.”
She had attended a Ridgeway fundraiser the night before Laura died. Teresa demanded that Vale “stabilize the Bennett problem.”
Vale replied that Laura would not cooperate.
Teresa said:
“Then make Amy believe grief is the reason she is alone.”
Betsy remained silent for sixteen years because Teresa threatened to expose Hannah’s surrogacy.
Amy’s phone rang.
The caller identified himself as Dr. Charles Vale.
He had watched the police searches through Ridgeway’s private network.
“I did not kill your mother,” he said.
“Then come forward.”
“I cannot.”
“Why?”
“Because Laura Bennett is alive.”
Amy stopped breathing.
Vale sent a live image.
An older woman sat beside a window inside an unknown facility. Her face had changed with age, but Amy recognized her mother immediately.
Laura looked toward the camera.
Then Teresa entered the room behind her.
