Its original balance matched Lucas’s.
But unlike Lucas’s protected account, Wyatt’s trust had been drained steadily.
Medical reimbursements.
Private-school expenses.
Luxury travel.
Property renovations.
Payments to Candice.
She had spent millions while telling Wyatt he owned nothing and survived only because she allowed him to remain in Gabriel’s house.
The trust administrator was Charles Morrow, Anna’s late father’s attorney.
Evelyn called him.
Morrow denied knowing Wyatt.
Then she sent him the account records.
He stopped answering.
An investigator found him at a private airfield outside Columbus, preparing to leave the country.
Police questioned him but did not complete any final criminal process.
Morrow claimed Anna’s father knew about the twins and created both trusts after seeing hospital billing records. He hired a private investigator to find the missing baby.
The investigator located Candice with an infant two states away.
Candice claimed the baby belonged to her sister.
Morrow accepted documents supplied by the hospital and did not challenge her.
“Then why did the trust pay her?” Evelyn asked.
“Anna’s father wanted the child protected even without public proof.”
“You transferred millions without confirming identity?”
“He was dying. He feared litigation would make the child disappear again.”
Morrow admitted Candice demanded secrecy in exchange for allowing periodic photographs and medical updates.
She used Wyatt as leverage.
After Anna’s crash, Candice obtained broader access to both trusts by claiming Gabriel was emotionally incapable of managing them.
Gabriel had never been informed.
Morrow produced an old photograph.
Two infants lay beside each other inside a hospital nursery.
Both wore Hart identification bands.
One had been circled in red.

The removal authorization carried Candice’s maternity billing code.
Gabriel’s stomach turned.
She had not merely discovered the theft.
She participated.
The photograph also showed a nurse beside the bassinets.
The nurse’s face was partially hidden, but Wyatt recognized her.
“That’s the woman who moved Anna from Cedar Vale.”
The second conspirator remained active.
Her name was Marlene Voss, now director of Ridgeway Youth Development Center.
Ridgeway’s transport order for Lucas had been signed by the same woman who removed Wyatt from the hospital sixteen years earlier.
The plan was repeating.
One twin had been taken at birth.
The other was about to be taken at sixteen.
Evelyn requested emergency searches of Ridgeway and Candice’s accounts.
Before investigators arrived, the center reported a fire in its records wing.
No children were injured.
But the oldest paper files were destroyed.
Marlene disappeared.
Candice also vanished from the suburban house.
She took her passport, cash, and several pieces of Anna’s jewelry.
Wyatt’s bedroom had been searched.
His photograph with Anna was missing.
Lucas’s phone received a message from Candice.
Your father chose Wyatt. Come home alone if you want the truth about your mother.
Lucas showed Gabriel immediately.
“She wants me to believe you’ll leave me.”
“I won’t.”
“Then why does she need me?”
Gabriel looked at the remaining trust documents.
Lucas’s signature would unlock the final distribution when he turned eighteen.
But another clause allowed early control under one condition:
If one twin died, the surviving twin inherited both trusts.
Candice had spent years hiding that Wyatt existed.
