“Did he ask to leave?”
“The second time.”
“And?”

“You trusted the doctor working for Victor.”
“Yes.”
Evelyn extended the confinement for thirty days.
During that period, Victor replaced the nursing staff and seized Henry’s communications.

“If I disclosed it, Victor would claim I abducted your father,” she said.

“Open the subway gate,” he ordered Lena through the intercom.
“No.”
“Your father will not survive another medical crisis.”
Henry looked at the ceiling camera.
“Do not open it.”
Victor struck the wheelchair controls and disabled its brakes.
The chair began rolling toward the open elevator shaft.
Adrian caught it.
For one second, his body moved before calculation.
He pulled Henry backward.
Victor turned on him.
“You chose her again.”
Adrian stared at Henry.
“I chose not to watch you kill him.”
The distinction did not make him innocent.
It revealed there were still lines he had not expected to cross.
Marcus sealed the archive floor.
Police entered.
Victor disappeared through a hidden service panel known only to the original founders.
Adrian remained beside Henry.
Officers surrounded him.
He raised his hands.
Before anyone placed him in cuffs, Judge Voss’s order reached the floor again, claiming Adrian was an essential cooperating witness.
His attorneys demanded protected status.
Lena watched from the hospital.
Even surrounded, Adrian remained between arrest and escape.
