Chapter 25 - HARRISON’S CLASSIFIED KINGDOMHarrison’s national-security hearing began behind closed doors.

The judge permitted attorneys representing protected witnesses, Lena, Marcus, Lucas and the acquired companies to participate under sealed procedures.

The government argued Harrison’s routes had saved hundreds of endangered people.

Witnesses confirmed it.

A prosecutor threatened by organized crime escaped through White Bridge.

A journalist survived after local police sold her address.

Three children were moved before violent relatives reached them.

Harrison’s system had provided real protection.

It also operated without meaningful external review.

He used Henry’s identity to sign trust amendments.

Moved adults who had not consented.

Blocked investigators from accessing evidence against government officials.

Allowed Victor to hide criminals beside witnesses.

Turned the gala into a loyalty test.

Used Lucas’s captivity to test Marcus.

Prepared Lena’s replacement through Elise.

Redirected thirty-seven percent of the ledger into an archive his own agency controlled.

“Why not seek an independent classified court?” the prosecutor asked.

“Existing courts contained Northgate judges.”

“All courts?”

“Enough.”

“Then you became judge.”

“I became responsible.”

“Who appointed you?”

Harrison looked toward the sealed gallery.

“Circumstance.”

The answer summarized every founder.

Harrison claimed Henry approved the loyalty test.

The analog message on the hundred-dollar bill contradicted him. Henry had warned Lena to break the screens, suggesting he feared any founder taking control.

Harrison argued the note had been written before Henry’s confinement and did not reflect later conditions.

Even if true, it did not authorize Harrison’s actions.

The court separated his charges.

He was convicted of identity fraud, obstruction, unlawful confinement, conspiracy, misuse of classified systems and evidence suppression.

He was acquitted of conspiring directly in Adrian’s attempted murder. Harrison allowed the compromised gala to continue but evidence did not prove he knew Adrian would use physical violence outside the monitored area.

He was convicted of reckless endangerment for failing to open the manor after discovering Lena lay injured.

He was convicted of coercing Marcus through Lucas’s captivity even though Victor’s guards physically held the boy.

His government service reduced parts of the sentence.

His abuse of authority increased them.

Harrison received decades in secure federal custody rather than disappearing into a protected retirement.

The classified witness network moved into a divided program with judicial, survivor and legislative oversight. Current locations remained sealed.

No Hartwell family member controlled it.

Before sentencing, Harrison addressed Lena.

“You preserved the routes I built.”

“Independent people preserved the routes residents still needed.”

“You used my classification work.”

“We separated useful evidence from your ownership.”

“You think division creates safety.”

“I think it makes one person less capable of deciding everyone’s risk.”

Harrison looked toward Marcus.

“Henry chose the wrong child to hide.”

Marcus replied:

“He should not have hidden either of us.”

The sentence left Harrison without the rivalry he wanted.

Evelyn testified during his case, accepting that she had entered the SUV voluntarily. Her cooperation preserved the ledger. Her original legal architecture made Harrison’s secret tribunal possible.

Her own trial and disciplinary hearing followed.

Nora Price attended through a secure feed but sat with her own attorney.

Evelyn saw her daughter for the first time in twenty-five years.

Nora looked like the abusive father Evelyn had escaped.

That resemblance did not make her dangerous.

“Did you protect me?” Nora asked.

“Yes.”

“Did you ask whether I wanted protection after I became an adult?”

“No.”

“Did you know I believed you died?”

“Yes.”

“Then you let me grieve you because returning might expose what you built.”

“Yes.”

Nora closed her notebook.

“I needed the honest sentence. I do not know what comes after it.”

Evelyn nodded.
