“Who altered my dress?” Lena asked.
The gown had remained in the mansion’s preparation suite for six hours before the gala. A stylist, two assistants, Celeste? No Celeste in this story. A tailor and a jewelry attendant entered the room.
Security footage showed no suspicious movement.
Marcus reviewed the logs.
“One person stayed inside after the cameras were placed in privacy mode.”
Adrian.
He claimed he wanted to leave Lena a handwritten anniversary note.
No note was found.
The second transmitter had been purchased through a shell company controlled by Victor Sloane.
The device retained a partial upload history.
Most forged files had been created weeks earlier.
One had been created after Lena pressed the switch.
A video showed Marcus accepting cash from Victor in the mansion library.
Marcus denied the meeting.
The room’s clock displayed 10:24 p.m.—six minutes after Marcus rushed outside and reported the servers missing.
He could not have been in both places.

The physical notes contained microscopic punctures and chemical marks applied before Henry vanished.

The bill Adrian threw into the snow had another secret.
Forensics found a wafer-thin storage chip folded beneath one corner.
Adrian had carried it unknowingly.

Henry sat across a restaurant table from Victor Sloane.
The date was three months before Lena met Adrian.
Victor placed Adrian’s photograph between them.
“He is ambitious enough to enter the family,” Victor said.
Henry answered, “My daughter is not an entry point.”
“Then tell her.”
Henry remained silent.
Victor smiled.
“You want to know whether she chooses well without your protection.”
Henry did not reject the accusation.
He allowed Adrian to approach Lena.

Lena felt something inside her collapse.
“My father turned my marriage into a test.”
Evelyn looked ashamed.
“I knew Henry was investigating Adrian. I did not know he had met Victor.”

Adrian entered the restaurant.
Victor left.
Henry spoke to him privately.
“If you marry Lena for access, I will know.”
Adrian answered, “I’m not planning to marry anyone.”
“Then why are you studying her foundation schedule?”
Adrian looked toward the camera.
He knew the meeting was being recorded.
“I was asked to report on her. I haven’t agreed.”
“Will you tell her?”
“I don’t know.”
The recording ended.
Adrian entered Lena’s life already aware that Victor wanted access.
He also knew Henry suspected him.
Weeks later, he met Lena at a museum fundraiser and acted as though the encounter were accidental.
The beginning had been manufactured.
What happened afterward remained harder to classify.

His yacht did not explode because of a mechanical failure.
Henry had been poisoned slowly for months.
