Anna had always called it fate.
Richard called it an assignment.
Detective Laura recovered emails from Jason’s first company account.
Identify whether Anna controls her own medication.
Confirm the trust language regarding verified siblings.
Do not discuss Rebecca until marriage authority is secured.
Jason had pursued Anna for access to her medical records, home, and inheritance.
Yet other messages suggested something changed.
Six months after the wedding, Jason wrote privately to Paige:
I cannot do what Dad planned. Anna is not what they said.
Paige replied:
Then tell her.
Jason answered:
If I tell her, they stop Rebecca’s treatment.
For a time, Jason may have tried to protect both women while remaining inside Richard’s scheme.
Then the company audit began.
Anna discovered unexplained transfers from Whitmore Therapeutics to private clinics. She planned to remove Richard and Jason from operational control.
The following week, her medication dosage began changing.
“Did Jason choose them or you?” Laura asked Rebecca.
“He told me he was trying to get us both out.”
“Did you believe him?”
“Yes.”
“What changed?”
“He said Anna refused to share the company.”
Jason showed Rebecca forged messages in which Anna allegedly called her a failed experiment and demanded that the clinic keep her hidden.
Rebecca’s resentment became useful.
By the time Jason proposed the identity substitution, she believed Anna deserved to lose everything.
“I did not know he intended to leave you without water,” Rebecca said.
“You knew he was leaving me without medicine.”
“He said doctors would find you within hours.”
“Who would call them?”
Rebecca had no answer.
Jason had told each participant a different version.
To Rebecca: Anna would survive but lose legal capacity.
To Evelyn: Anna would be discovered after a controlled medical episode.
To Paige: Jason was taking Anna to a private treatment program.
To Richard: Anna would die before the seventy-fifth day.
Laura confronted Jason with the contradictions.
He sat behind reinforced glass wearing the same calm expression he had used while zipping his suitcase.
“My father controlled the operation.”
“You sealed the doors.”
“He told me Anna had prepared to have Rebecca euthanized.”
“You believed that?”
“I saw authorization papers.”
“They were forged.”
“I know that now.”
“You took her phone.”
“My father said she had another hidden device.”
“You smiled when she begged you to stay.”
Jason’s jaw tightened.
“I needed my family to believe I was committed.”
Anna watched from the observation room.
He wanted every cruelty divided into smaller acts until none seemed entirely his.
But his hand turned the lock.
His voice promised seventy-four days.
No one controlled his smile.
Then Laura played the photograph of Jason giving medicine to Rebecca.
A second figure appeared in the reflection of the clinic window.
Paige.
She was taking the photograph herself.
Jason stared at it.
“My sister sent that to you?”
Laura did not answer.
Paige had been feeding evidence to investigators before Anna was rescued.
