According to the recovered files, Whitmore Therapeutics faced takeover threats shortly after Anna and Rebecca were born. Henry feared investors would kidnap or coerce his heirs.
He created duplicate identity systems allowing one daughter to assume the other’s legal position during an emergency.
The protocol included matching medical files, mirrored signatures, substitute residences, and biometric contingencies.
At first, it was theoretical.
Then Rebecca became seriously ill.
Henry placed her inside a private research program, publicly erased her birth, and concentrated the inheritance around Anna.
Margaret objected.
Richard offered to manage Rebecca’s treatment secretly.
Henry agreed.
“He handed her to Richard,” Anna said.
Margaret sat beside her under medical supervision.
“He believed he was saving her.”
“Did you?”
“No. I believed he was choosing the company.”
Henry’s files contained letters describing Rebecca as “reserve continuity.”
She was not raised as a daughter.
She was preserved as an alternate heir.
Anna looked toward her twin.
Rebecca read the phrase in silence.
“All these years, I thought you replaced me.”
“Our father reduced both of us to positions.”
Margaret admitted helping create the original medical profiles. She believed the duplication would protect the children temporarily.
When she tried to end it, Henry allowed Richard to declare her unstable.
Protection again became the word used before betrayal.
Detective Laura found one section of the protocol that Richard had expanded.
Phase Four: Spousal Integration.
An outsider would marry the public heir, gain medical and legal authority, then supervise identity transfer if necessary.
Henry had not chosen Jason.
But he designed the position Jason eventually filled.
Richard placed his grandson into it.
Jason was not only a husband selected to gain control.
He was the final component in Henry’s family-security architecture.
Anna asked Margaret whether Henry ever regretted the protocol.
“He recorded a message before his death.”
The recording had been stored inside the old emergency phone Anna used for rescue.
No one noticed because the battery contained encrypted memory.
Technicians recovered the audio.
Henry’s voice filled the room.
“If Anna finds this phone, Continuity has become the danger I feared.”
Anna closed her eyes.
Her father sounded older and frightened.
“Rebecca must be restored publicly. Margaret must be freed. Richard must never obtain seventy-five-day authority.”
Henry knew exactly how the trust could be exploited.
“Why didn’t he change it?” Laura asked.
Margaret answered.
“He tried.”
Henry died in a boating accident the week before the amended trust was scheduled to be signed.
Richard witnessed the accident.
Jason’s family had always described it as mechanical failure.
The emergency-phone recording continued.
“There is one person Richard cannot replace because she was never entered into the protocol.”
A photograph file opened.
It showed a teenage girl standing between Anna and Rebecca as infants.
She looked approximately seventeen.
Margaret stared at her.
“That is not possible.”
“Who is she?” Anna asked.
Margaret touched the screen.
“My first daughter.”
Evelyn was supposed to be the older half-sister.
