Chapter 6 - The Sealed CorridorDana divided the secured floor into defensive zones.

The armed corporate team reached the elevator lobby and presented a court order authorizing Natalie’s transfer. Their commander, Marcus Reed, had served under Dana years earlier.

He spoke through the barrier.

“Chief, step aside.”

“This patient cannot be moved.”

“The board’s physician certified otherwise.”

“The physician’s signature was cloned.”

“That is for the court to decide.”

“You brought rifles onto a spinal-trauma floor.”

“So did you.”

Dana glanced at the officers behind her.

Both sides believed paperwork made them lawful.

Natalie understood Evelyn’s strategy.

If Dana resisted, the board would portray the hospital room as an illegal private prison.

If Dana surrendered, Natalie would disappear into a corporate facility before she could testify.

Adrian remained surrounded beside the bed.

He spoke quietly.

“Evelyn never trusted Marcus.”

“Why tell us?” Dana asked.

“Because if he takes Natalie, I become unnecessary.”

Self-interest made him useful.

Adrian claimed Marcus had installed private surveillance inside the board’s security center. He recorded directors discussing illegal operations.

Evelyn tolerated him because he controlled evidence against her.

The transfer team was not loyal to the board.

It was loyal to Marcus.

Natalie looked through the glass toward him.

“What do you want?”

Marcus answered through the intercom.

“Release Adrian and provide the original defense patent keys.”

Adrian stared.

Marcus was not there to rescue the board.

He wanted leverage.

The corporate sale, scaffold collapse, and hospital attack had created enough chaos for him to seize the technology personally.

Everyone had built a plan inside someone else’s plan.

Dana ordered the corridor lights switched off.

Emergency red strips illuminated the floor.

She opened a direct line to federal authorities and transmitted the preserved local evidence.

Marcus jammed the signal.

Thomas Ward still controlled the company server from headquarters.

He contacted Natalie privately through the medical monitor.

“You must authorize the destruction protocol.”

“No.”

“If Marcus obtains the patent keys, thousands of military systems become vulnerable.”

“Then send the evidence to federal investigators.”

“I do not know which investigators Evelyn controls.”

“You decided no institution could be trusted, so you appointed yourself.”

Thomas’s expression remained grim.

“I lost my company and my wife.”

“Your daughter lost both parents because you chose secrecy.”

Celeste heard the exchange from the corridor.

Thomas looked toward her.

“I protected you.”

“You trained me to seduce a married man and stand beside a sabotaged scaffold.”

“I trained you to survive Evelyn.”

“You trained me to become useful to you.”

Thomas did not answer.

Natalie saw the resemblance between him and Martin.

Both men believed strategic brilliance excused consent.

The hospital’s power failed.

Backup generators activated, but the armored door controls went offline for four seconds.

Marcus’s team breached the first barrier.

Dana’s officers pushed them back without firing.

A struggle erupted in the corridor.

Hospital staff evacuated nearby patients through a protected stairwell.

Natalie remained immobilized at the center of the conflict.

Adrian moved suddenly.

He seized the metal evidence container holding the syringe and struck an officer’s arm.

Dana turned.

Adrian did not attack Natalie.

He threw the container toward the glass corridor.

It shattered against the barrier, leaving the sealed syringe visible between both security teams.

“Marcus,” Adrian shouted, “Evelyn ordered the injection.”

Marcus looked down at the evidence.

Adrian was attempting to fracture the corporate team’s loyalty.

“She will blame every one of you when this fails,” he continued. “The forged transfer order carries your authorization.”

Marcus checked the document.

His digital signature appeared beneath the board’s.

He had not signed it.

Evelyn had prepared to sacrifice him too.

The corporate officers lowered their weapons slightly.

Dana stepped forward.

“Open your body cameras and preserve the order. No one needs to die for Evelyn Shaw’s forgery.”

Marcus hesitated.

Then one officer behind him fired into the ceiling.

Sprinklers activated.

Patients screamed from distant rooms.

The shooter turned his weapon toward the control panel.

Dana’s team tackled him.

His badge identified him as Archer security.

His fingerprint belonged to a private contractor working for Thomas Ward.

Thomas had placed a man inside Marcus’s team to force escalation.

Celeste looked toward the headquarters feed.

“Dad, stop this.”

Thomas replied, “The confrontation must remain undeniable.”

The phrase revealed the truth.

He wanted armed corporate officers recorded breaching Natalie’s hospital floor. The footage would destroy Evelyn and justify releasing the defense files.

Again, evidence required danger.

Again, Natalie’s body had become the stage.

She clenched the tooth switch twice.

The hospital forensic system activated its second protocol.

Steel partitions separated both security teams.

Every weapon inside the corridor locked magnetically against the walls.

Dana had designed the system after Natalie’s father once survived an executive kidnapping.

The corridor went silent.

Natalie looked toward Thomas on the screen.

“You wanted undeniable evidence.”

She activated the ceiling cameras.

“Now everyone can see what you did.”

Thomas’s feed disappeared.

Before it ended, a woman stepped into view behind him and placed a gun against his back.

Evelyn Shaw.

She had never been inside the boardroom.

She was at headquarters with Thomas.

May you like

And she had just taken control of the server trigger.

👉 Natalie stopped the armed confrontation, but Evelyn captured Thomas and gained control of the files capable of destroying the entire company.
