Chapter 7 - The Child with Two MothersDr. Michael Grant refused to let hospital administrators access Ruby’s genetic results without Hannah’s consent.

Within hours, three attorneys representing Vale Medical Logistics demanded the samples be sealed.

That confirmed their importance.

An independent genetics specialist explained the findings carefully.

Ruby was not a simple chimera.

Her cells contained two distinct maternal genetic lines.

One matched Hannah.

One matched Vanessa.

The pattern suggested an experimental embryo manipulation procedure performed before implantation.

Vanessa’s egg may have been used as the primary genetic source. Hannah’s cells were added during an unauthorized therapeutic process, making both women genetically connected to Ruby.

Hannah had carried and delivered her.

Vanessa had contributed genetic material.

Neither fact determined motherhood alone.

But the trust likely cared only about biological lineage.

Peter engineered Ruby to satisfy multiple inheritance clauses.

Noah’s first biological child.

A Vale descendant.

A child connected to the Mason sisters.

A medical asset.

Hannah felt sick.

“She was designed to unlock money.”

The specialist corrected her gently.

“Ruby is a child. Adults may have designed a procedure around her conception, but she is not the purpose they assigned.”

The distinction mattered.

Hannah returned to Ruby’s bedside after surgery.

The procedure had gone well. Ruby slept with a fresh bandage and stuffed rabbit tucked under one arm.

Hannah held her small hand.

Whatever cells existed inside her, Ruby had become herself through six years of laughter, fear, scraped knees, bedtime stories, and stubborn questions.

Vanessa’s genetic connection could not excuse assault.

A court issued an emergency protective order preventing her from contacting Ruby.

Eleanor and Frank were barred as well.

Daniel pursued charges for assault, evidence tampering, conspiracy, forgery, and unlawful guardianship planning.

Peter Vale remained missing.

Noah remained missing.

Margaret remained unlocated.

The Mason house became a major crime scene.

Inside the hidden tunnel, investigators found a small medical room used over many years.

Wall files listed patients under false names.

One entry read:

H.M.—Embryo Transfer Successful. Maternal Integration Unexpected.

Hannah had never consented to embryo transfer.

She believed the procedure treated cysts.

Peter implanted an embryo while she was sedated.

Her later relationship with Noah had been arranged to make the pregnancy appear natural.

Noah may not have known initially.

A second note read:

Subject N.V. exhibiting resistance. Memory suppression recommended.

Noah was drugged long before he disappeared.

The family dinner where Hannah first introduced him may have occurred after Peter had already manipulated both of them.

Daniel recovered medication records showing Eleanor added drops to Hannah’s drinks during the first month of pregnancy.

The drug caused confusion and memory gaps.

Eleanor claimed Peter said it protected the embryo.

Hannah confronted her through the hospital’s protected video system.

“You drugged me.”

“I thought it was vitamins.”

“You always thought whatever kept Vanessa comfortable was harmless.”

Eleanor looked toward the camera.

“I loved you both.”

“You loved avoiding choices.”

“I was afraid Vanessa would hurt herself.”

“So you let everyone hurt me.”

Eleanor could not answer.

The independent trust documents identified Ruby as controlling beneficiary at age six. Her shares could not be managed by any adult involved in fraud.

A court-appointed fiduciary would protect the assets until she became an adult.

Peter could no longer control the company through guardianship.

Unless Hannah was disqualified and Vanessa’s biological claim succeeded.

Vanessa requested a court hearing from detention.

She argued she was not mentally responsible during the assault because Peter had prescribed medication affecting impulse control.

Toxicology confirmed sedatives and stimulants in her blood.

Peter may have chemically destabilized her before dinner.

But Vanessa had threatened Ruby for years without those drugs.

Again, manipulation and choice existed together.

Daniel obtained footage from a pharmacy showing Margaret Vale collecting the same medication.

She knew Peter’s prescription system.

A message arrived on Hannah’s phone from an unknown number.

A live image showed Noah inside a vehicle.

He was conscious but weak.

Margaret sat beside him.

She looked into the camera.

“Peter is coming for Ruby tonight. Move her before the hospital changes shifts.”

Daniel traced the signal.

It came from inside the hospital.

Margaret and Noah were somewhere in the building.

Security searched every floor.

Then Ruby’s monitor alarm sounded.

Her medication line had been disconnected.

A nurse stood beside the bed holding an empty syringe.

Her badge displayed the name Laura Reed.

The real Laura Reed was home asleep.

The impostor removed her mask.

Hannah recognized Dr. Peter Vale from old family photographs.

He had entered Ruby’s room disguised as a woman.

👉 Ruby’s inheritance was placed beyond the family’s control, but Peter Vale infiltrated the hospital personally and reached the child before police could locate Noah or Margaret.
