Hannah moved between him and the bed.
“What did you give her?”
“Nothing yet.”
The syringe contained a paralytic agent, according to the label.
Peter’s expression remained calm despite hospital security approaching in the corridor.
“You have spent six years pretending biology is irrelevant,” he said.
“She is my daughter.”
“She is the culmination of thirty years of reproductive research.”
Hannah felt rage overpower fear.
“She likes strawberry toothpaste and sleeps with one foot outside the blanket. That’s who she is.”
Peter looked almost amused.
“Sentiment does not change ownership.”
He reached toward the IV.
Hannah seized the metal visitor chair and struck his wrist. The syringe flew beneath the bed.
Peter grabbed her hair.
Ruby woke and screamed.
The hospital door opened.
Daniel entered with two officers.
Peter released Hannah and raised his hands.
“You cannot arrest me based on family hysteria.”
Daniel forced him to the floor.
The detective recovered the syringe and Peter’s false credentials.
Inside his clothing were transfer papers authorizing Ruby’s removal to a private pediatric facility.
Hannah’s signature appeared again.
Peter had intended to sedate Ruby and move her during shift change.
The hospital administrator listed on the authorization had accepted payments from Vale Medical Logistics.
The conspiracy reached inside the institution caring for Ruby.
Peter was detained under federal guard.
He demanded legal counsel and refused to reveal Noah’s location.
Margaret appeared thirty minutes later.
She had been hiding inside an unused physical-therapy room with Noah.
Noah entered Ruby’s hospital room in a wheelchair.
Scars crossed one side of his face. His hands trembled. He looked older than the man Hannah remembered.
Ruby stared.
“Daddy?”
Noah began crying.
Hannah did not move aside immediately.
“You do not get to walk into her life because your mother brought you here.”
“I know.”
“You left me.”
“I know.”
“You knew Vanessa and I were being used.”
“Not all of it.”
“That answer is not enough.”
“No.”
He did not ask for forgiveness.
Margaret stood behind him wearing the red coat Ruby described.
She carried a rose-shaped ring.
Hannah looked at her.
“You entered my parents’ house.”
“Yes.”
“You gave Ruby the bracelet.”
“Yes.”
“You allowed her to carry evidence without telling me.”
Margaret’s certainty weakened.
“I needed a route Peter wouldn’t detect.”
“You used a six-year-old as a courier.”
“I believed the charm was safe.”
“Everyone believes their part of the danger is safe.”
Margaret accepted the accusation.
She had rescued Noah from St. Matthew’s after receiving Eleanor’s stolen bank envelope through Vanessa.
Vanessa did receive it.
She secretly sent it to Margaret before destroying the visible address. She wanted Noah freed but feared he would take Ruby away.
Her actions remained contradictory.
Love, possession, guilt, and rage existed together.
Noah confirmed Peter arranged his relationship with Hannah but said he genuinely loved her after meeting.
He discovered the embryo procedure only after Ruby’s birth.
When he tried to tell Hannah, Peter caused the vehicle crash and confined him.
“Why didn’t you escape earlier?” Hannah asked.
“I couldn’t remember my name for three years.”
Margaret recovered him only after bribing a nurse.
Noah’s condition improved slowly.
He spent the last year collecting evidence through hidden recordings.
The sunflower bracelet carried one piece.
The missing envelope carried another.
Peter’s arrest appeared to close the immediate threat.
But Daniel remained uneasy.
The kitchen security account showed another administrator logging in after Peter entered the hospital.
The user downloaded the assault footage and every earlier recording.
Someone wanted copies.
Not to protect Vanessa.
To control public release.
Peter’s phone contained messages from a contact called THE EXECUTOR.
The Executor ordered Ruby’s transfer and Noah’s confinement.
Peter had not led the entire operation.
He answered to someone protecting the Vale trust from above.
Daniel traced the number to a legal foundation managed by Ruby’s court-appointed fiduciary.
The supposedly independent official protecting her inheritance was connected to the conspiracy.
Then the hospital received an emergency court order.
It removed Hannah’s temporary medical authority based on allegations she assaulted Peter and interfered with Ruby’s care.
The new guardian named in the order was Vanessa Mason.
Despite detention, Vanessa had been granted legal control.
The judge’s signature appeared genuine.
Margaret looked at the document.
“That judge worked for my husband.”
Hannah stared.
“Your husband is dead.”
Margaret’s face went pale.
