Evelyn was transferred to the same hospital under federal guard.
Daniel entered her room alone.
For four years, he had imagined what he would say if she were alive.
Anger arrived first.
“You let Lily and me bury you.”
“I know.”
“You let Kate enter our house.”
“I did not know Samuel would use her that way.”
“You knew Brightwell wanted Lily.”
“Yes.”
“And you still stayed hidden.”
“I believed the registry would protect more children than my return would protect you.”
Daniel looked at the woman who raised him.
“You made us part of your calculation.”
“Yes.”
She did not defend the choice.
That honesty hurt more than an excuse.
Evelyn explained the fire.
Samuel entered through the rear door with Dean and Officer Cole. They demanded the cardinal and the cancellation code.
Amy arrived secretly to move Evelyn and Lily.
During the confrontation, Dean ignited curtains to destroy the study.
Smoke filled the hallway.
Evelyn carried Lily downstairs and gave her to Amy.
Cole blocked the front exit.
Lily saw his badge through the smoke.
She also saw someone else near the staircase.
A woman holding a red fuel can.
Kate.
Kate had known the Harper family before Evelyn died.
She did not merely enter Daniel’s life afterward.
Samuel sent her to the house during the fire.
“She started it?” Daniel asked.
Evelyn shook her head.
“She carried the fuel, but I never saw her pour it.”
Lily listened from the doorway.
“I did.”
Everyone turned.
She had remembered the moment during the burns.
Kate placed the can beside the curtains.
Dean took it from her.
Samuel ordered him to create enough smoke to force Evelyn toward the rear exit.
The fire spread faster than intended.
Kate tried to put it out.
Dean stopped her.
Kate had participated in the plan and then attempted to limit the damage.
Again, guilt and resistance existed inside the same person.
Lily continued.
“Grandma gave the bird to the other Olivia.”
“Amy,” Daniel said.
Lily nodded.
“Then Grandma went back upstairs.”
Evelyn looked confused.
“I didn’t.”
“You did,” Lily insisted. “But you had different hair.”
Amy entered the room.
“There was another woman.”
During the evacuation, she saw someone resembling Evelyn cross the upper landing. Samuel called her Eleanor.
Evelyn’s younger sister had disappeared as a teenager. The family believed she drowned.
Brightwell’s registry listed Eleanor Harper as a long-term identity specialist.
She could imitate Evelyn’s voice and appearance.
The body found after the fire may have belonged to Eleanor.
Or Eleanor may have survived and helped Samuel stage Evelyn’s death.
The final archive contained no photograph.

Everyone looked toward the corridor.
The nurse who had just delivered Lily’s medication stood outside the glass.
She looked enough like Evelyn to be mistaken for a distant relative.
When she saw them staring, she abandoned the tray and ran.
Nora followed.
The woman disappeared into the maternity elevator.
Security reviewed the medication.
It was not intended for Lily.
The label named another patient:
Grace Harper.
Daniel’s hidden daughter had been admitted to the same hospital that morning under a protected identity.
