Dr. Reed had treated Audrey since before the wedding.
He knew more than a doctor should have known about her marriage.
He knew when she started apologizing for Dominic missing appointments.
He knew when Victoria began calling the clinic asking questions she had no right to ask.
He knew when Audrey smiled too hard and said everything was fine.
That night, he also knew Dominic was lying.
The injuries did not match a simple slip.
The bruising on Audrey’s upper arm looked like fingers.
The angle of impact suggested force from behind.
And the housekeeper’s 911 call had one sentence in the background.
Mrs. Hale, why did you push her?
Dr. Reed preserved the recording.
Quietly.
Legally.
Then he called Audrey’s attorney, Sophia Lang.
Sophia arrived before dawn.

“I need you to know three things.”

“First, you are safe here.”
“Dominic and Victoria have been removed from your visitor list.”
“Second, Maria is willing to give a statement.”
Audrey closed her eyes.
Good Maria.
“And third?”
Sophia hesitated.
That scared Audrey more than anything else.
“Dominic contacted his attorney at midnight.”
“He is filing for divorce.”
Audrey laughed once.
A sound with no humor in it.
“Of course he is.”
Sophia continued.
“He is claiming abandonment and instability.”
Audrey turned toward the phone showing Dominic and Paige in the paused video.
The clip had come from Paige’s own social account.
Posted accidentally.
Or maybe arrogantly.
A hotel suite.
Champagne.
Dominic’s arm around Paige.
The caption blurred by Sophia before Audrey saw too much.
But the image was enough.
Audrey asked, “Can you file first?”
Sophia’s eyes sharpened.
“Yes.”
“Can you freeze the marital accounts?”
“Yes.”
“Can you preserve the house cameras?”
“Already requested.”
Audrey looked at Dr. Reed.
“And the fertility report?”
Dr. Reed’s face tightened.
“You have access to your own medical file and shared fertility records from treatment.”
“His final result is in the shared file because he consented during evaluation.”
Audrey nodded slowly.
Dominic had been careless.
He never thought paperwork mattered unless he controlled it.
“Then use it.”
Sophia leaned closer.
“Audrey, are you sure?”
Audrey touched her stomach.
“I lost my child.”
“He lost the only one he could ever have.”
