Dominic did not explode at first.
He went quiet.
That was how Audrey knew the truth had reached the deepest part of him.
His eyes moved from Dr. Reed to Audrey.
Then to Victoria.
Then to Paige.
Paige had both hands over her mouth.
She was looking at Dominic like a woman suddenly calculating the future and finding nothing there.
Victoria recovered first.
“This is manipulation.”
Her voice was sharp.
“Doctors are wrong all the time.”
Dr. Reed’s face did not change.
“The results were confirmed twice.”
Dominic whispered, “You told me it could improve.”
Dr. Reed looked at him.
“I told you the chances were extremely unlikely after the final test.”
“You refused follow-up counseling.”
Audrey stared at Dominic.
“You knew.”
Dominic did not answer.
Sophia spoke instead.
“He knew.”
“And he let the family blame Audrey.”
Paige turned toward Dominic.
“You told me she was the reason you had no children.”
Dominic’s jaw tightened.
“Not now.”
Paige laughed once.
It was ugly.
Panicked.
“Oh my God.”
“You were going to marry me and pretend?”
Victoria snapped, “Paige, be quiet.”
Paige stepped backward.
“No.”
“I am not going down with this family.”
Audrey almost smiled.
People like Paige never loved truth.
They loved exits.
Sophia placed divorce papers on the bedside table.
“Dominic, you have been served.”
He looked at the papers like they were written in fire.
“What is this?”
“Divorce petition.”
“Emergency asset preservation.”
“Protective order request.”
“Evidence preservation notice.”
Audrey added softly, “And a criminal referral.”
Victoria’s face paled.
“For what?”
“For pushing me down the stairs.”
Victoria looked at Dominic.
“Say something.”
Dominic did.
Just not what she wanted.
“Did you touch her?”
The question hung in the air.
Victoria opened her mouth.
Closed it.
Opened it again.
Audrey watched Dominic’s world collapse in stages.
The wife he abandoned.
The baby he lost.
The mistress doubting him.
The mother exposed.
The future ending.
He turned back to Audrey.
“Audrey, I didn’t know about the baby.”
“No.”
Her voice was quiet.
“You didn’t care enough to know.”
That was worse.
