Chapter 10 - MOM’S COUNTERATTACKMom stopped apologizing.

Then hired an attorney.

Not because police had arrested her.

They hadn’t.

Hospital social work had made a report because a vulnerable postpartum adult and newborn were involved in questionable caregiving circumstances.

Adult protective services did not automatically take jurisdiction just because Maya was postpartum.

Child welfare conducted a limited safety assessment regarding Noah.

Mom’s attorney advised her to stop talking.

Reasonable.

Then Mom petitioned for temporary grandparent contact with Noah.

That was not reasonable strategically.

She claimed I was cutting her off because Maya was “manipulating” me.

Our lawyer explained:

Grandparents do not simply obtain court-ordered access to an intact family because the parents impose boundaries.

The petition went nowhere.

But the filing told us something.
