Chapter 18 - THE MAIN TRUTHThere was no plot to harm Maya.

No hidden insurance policy.
No plan to take Noah.
No attempt to poison anyone.
Linda came to our house genuinely believing she was helping.
Then she saw a postpartum woman resting.
And filtered that through forty years of unresolved resentment.
She believed recovery required toughness.
She believed I was being exploited because I was cooking, cleaning, shopping, and caring for my own newborn.
She believed Maya’s medical instructions were overcautious.
She believed forcing activity would prove Maya was stronger than she thought.
Then pride entered.
Once Maya resisted, Mom needed to be right.
Every worsening symptom became:
Drama.
Every request for rest became:
Avoidance.
Every call for help became:
Overreaction.
She pushed Maya through dinner preparation.
Interfered with Noah’s feeding plan.
Unplugged the smart speaker after Maya tried to call me.
Refused Maya’s written request to call me when severe headache and visual symptoms developed.
Then Maya collapsed.
And Mom sat down to eat because admitting urgency would mean admitting every earlier judgment had been wrong.
That was the main truth.
Not hatred.

Entitlement reinforced by old pain.
Still dangerous.
