Victor Sterling did not arrive loudly.
That was not his style.
He entered through the estate’s private business wing with one security executive behind him and a sealed black folder under his arm.
The staff recognized him immediately.
Not because he shouted.
Because doors opened when his name appeared on internal schedules.
Dominic had never understood that part.
He believed money announced itself.
Victor knew real control often moved quietly through contracts, board clauses, management agreements, insurance language, and ownership structures no arrogant man reads until it is too late.
The Manhattan estate was not Dominic’s.
Not really.
His company operated from it.
His gala used it.
His guests admired it.
But the holding structure had been arranged years ago, long before Dominic began claiming the place as proof of his own rise.
Sterling Capital had remained in the background because Vivienne asked Victor not to interfere.
She had wanted her marriage to be separate from her family’s power.
Victor respected that.
Until Dominic hid her child.
That crossed the line.
When Victor reached the upper corridor, he found Vivienne standing with Sophia, both in pink gowns, both visibly shaken.
He looked first at Sophia.
“Are you alright, star?”
Sophia nodded, though her eyes were wet.
Then he looked at Vivienne.
She did not need to explain much.
Only one sentence.
“He introduced Chloe’s son as his family.”
Victor’s face did not change.
That was how Vivienne knew he was furious.
“Then we go downstairs,” he said.
Dominic tried to intercept them at the landing.
“Victor, this is a private matter.”
Victor looked past him toward the ballroom.
“You made it public.”
Dominic stepped closer.
Two uniformed officers, already present for gala security coordination after an earlier disturbance near the entrance, turned toward the movement.
Victor did not touch Dominic.
Vivienne did not raise her voice.
But Dominic grabbed for control with the desperation of a man losing the room.
