Chapter 9 - THE LOCKSMITH
The locksmith’s records mattered.
Richard called at 6:18 a.m. on funeral day.
“I am taking legal possession of inherited property this afternoon.”
He emailed the debt agreement.
The locksmith asked for recorded deed or executor paperwork.
Richard sent an affidavit signed by himself stating:
Immediate title transfer upon death.
The locksmith changed locks at 10:32.
While we were at the funeral.
Not necessarily criminal conduct by locksmith.
Poor verification.
Richard had timed it precisely.
He also disabled our smart lock and camera hub.
Why?
He told police:
“New owner security.”
Digital log showed he deleted driveway recordings after entering.
Recoverable cloud copies later showed him carrying boxes from my bedroom office to his SUV.
Documents.
A laptop.
Mark’s home backup drive.
