Chapter 7 - The hidden phone
The second phone contained more than Robert’s call.
That was what Julian and Chloe feared.
Not because it was packed with hacked secrets.
Because I had been using it for six weeks as a clean archive.
Every time something mattered, I copied it there.
Screenshots of messages.
Photographs.
Voicemails.
Bank alerts.
Notes written immediately after conversations.
The original materials existed elsewhere.
The hidden phone was backup.
My attorney had advised:
“Do not edit files. Preserve originals where possible. Screenshots are useful, but underlying records are better.”
So I kept both.
On the phone:
A screenshot of Julian telling Chloe:
Once Hannah files, keep your distance from Lily until counsel says otherwise.
That sounded responsible until the earlier messages appeared.
Three weeks before:
Mom says Hannah is going to play the unstable-mother card.
Chloe:
Then let her. Everyone sees how dramatic she is.
Julian:
We need to stop giving her material.
Another:
Chloe:
Lily screams every time I tell her no.
Julian:
Because Hannah trained her that tears win.
Another:
When this is over she’ll adjust to you.
I had seen that message because it appeared on an old shared tablet still logged into Julian’s account.
I photographed it.
Then logged out.
No hacking.
No guessing passwords.
I sent the image to Rebecca.
The hidden phone held a copy.
