Chapter 16 - THE TEST MARGARET NEVER ORDEREDAfter the informal grandparent exclusion involving Sophie, Margaret could have asked Daniel for a direct test against Robert’s known family.
She did not.
Could have told him.
Did not.
Could have told me:
“I ran an inappropriate test without permission and something confusing happened.”
Definitely did not.
Instead she began calling Sophie:
“Claire’s little twin.”
Then:
“Not much Dawson there.”
Then:
“Some truths come out eventually.”
She had a result that raised a question about her own past.
She directed the question toward me.
That was not misunderstanding anymore.
That was avoidance.
The direct Daniel-Sophie test removed her safest explanation.
Sophie was Daniel’s biological child.
So if the older Robert-Sophie test had been valid, Margaret had to look backward.
At herself.
That was why she lunged for my envelope before it opened.
