Chapter 6 - The black sedan

Police found the first useful external evidence from our neighbor’s doorbell camera.

A dark sedan entered the neighborhood at 1:47 a.m.

Headlights off for part of the street? No. The camera could not establish that reliably.

It parked two blocks away.

A man walked toward our house.

Dark clothes.

Winter coat.

Face mostly turned away.

At 2:12, after police sirens approached, the same figure ran behind the Morris property and disappeared toward a drainage path.

The sedan left seventeen minutes later.

Could have been someone else driving.

No readable plate in the first recording.

A camera near the subdivision entrance captured part of it.

Enough for police to identify the model.

Not enough for a case.

Then Daniel gave them Evan Ross’s name.

Evan operated Ross Site Protection.

Small company.

Corporate security consultations.

Asset retrieval.

Facility closures.

Employee escort services after terminations.

Northline had used him several times.

Daniel had met him.

“He followed me to the airport.”

Officer Vega asked:

“How do you know?”

“I saw him.”

“When?”

“About 1:25.”

Daniel had arrived early.

Airport parking garage.

He saw Evan near the elevator bank.

Dark jacket.

No luggage.

Daniel immediately thought:

Nathan knows.

But what did Daniel do?

He went inside.

He did not call me.

He did not call 911.

May you like

He called a lawyer.

That fact would damage us later.
