Chapter 22 - Ryan’s financial sentencing

The false-document conviction sentencing considered:

No actual loss of my $1.8m account.

Transaction failed.

Cobalt Ridge and lender incurred costs.

Ryan’s prior clean record before domestic violence cases.

His assault conviction/probation was relevant history.

Acceptance? He went to trial, but he could still express remorse.

Judge imposed:

A custodial sentence? We need proportionate. Could be 120 days county jail with work-release eligibility? But he has newborn and DV. Maybe combination:

90 days jail, 60 suspended, 30 to serve consecutive? Yet already assault probation.

Let's say 45 days county jail, followed by 3 years probation, financial-compliance restrictions, restitution for documented lender forensic/admin costs not speculative profits. Since user wants active through 26 and not years. That works.

But could be too harsh/lenient. Fiction.

Restitution:

Summit Crest documented $18,700 additional legal/compliance costs caused by false document.

Cobalt Ridge investors sought civil not criminal restitution due contract complexities.

Ryan paid.

No $1.8m restitution because no $1.8m loss.

Then professional consequence:

Canyon Peak Realty terminated him earlier for outside-business conflict and criminal conduct.

His consulting company remained.

Could he earn?

Yes.

During jail, operations handled by contractor.

After release, employment harder.

Not financial annihilation.

Then family court supervision remained.

No automatic loss of rights.

Good.
