Chapter 23 - Emma’s tablet becomes ordinary again
For months, Emma stopped filming.
The tablet stayed in a drawer.
When relatives asked for photos, she said:
“No video.”
I understood.
Then one Saturday she asked:
“Can I make movies again?”
“Yes.”
“Will Grandma get in trouble?”
“No.”
“Will court watch them?”
My chest tightened.
“No. Your videos are yours unless there is a real safety/legal reason adults need one.”
She nodded.
Then recorded her stuffed animals having a wedding.
No evidence.
No behavior log.
No metadata anyone cared about.
Later she filmed Jason burning pancakes.
He saw the camera.
“Delete that.”
Emma laughed.
“No.”
He chased her around the kitchen.
Normal.
Then he stopped.
Looked at me.
For half a second, all three of us remembered.
Video.
Evidence.
Grandma.
He said:
“Actually, keep it. History should know.”
