Chapter 22 - The first visit

Therapeutic office.
Forty-five minutes.
Drusilla had served her thirty days and was on probation.
No jewelry beyond simple earrings.
No phone in room.
Elowen entered holding my hand.
Then let go.
Drusilla sat.
“Hi.”
Elowen:
“Hi.”
Silence.
Then:
“Why did you lock Caleb?”
Drusilla looked at therapist.
Therapist nodded slightly.
“I thought making children sit alone until they calmed down was good discipline.”
“Was it?”
“No.”
“Did he cry?”
“Yes.”
“Did you like it?”
Drusilla’s face tightened.
“No.”
“Then why video?”
“I wanted parents to see what happened.”
Elowen:
“You made crying videos.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I thought crying showed what children needed.”
Elowen frowned.
“Crying means sad.”
Drusilla closed her eyes.
“Yes.”
That answer was probably the most therapeutic thing anyone said.
Then Elowen held up friendship bracelet.
“You gave me this.”
“I remember.”
“Do I have to give it back?”
“No.”
“Good.”
No hug.
At end, Drusilla asked:
“May I see you again?”
Therapist intervened.
“Elowen doesn’t have to decide future schedule right now.”
Good.
No child carrying order.
Then family court.
Judge approved:

No unsupervised access.
No shed/outbuilding contact.
No recording.
No discipline by Drusilla.
No trust/business discussion.
