Chapter 8 - Genevieve blames her husband

My sister did not collapse when the forensic report came.
She adapted.
“Adrian lied to me.”
That became her position.
She claimed:
Adrian told her he had found a properly executed original but recreated it because the physical original was water damaged.
She believed the clean copy was a faithful reproduction.
Why then call it original?
“Lawyer language.”
Naomi nearly choked.
Then emails.
Genevieve:
Can the draft be reconstructed?
She said:
“Reconstructed meant reconstructed from an original.”
Maybe.
Then:
Found signed pages?
Adrian:
No.
That was worse.
She said:
“He later found them.”
Where?
No record.
Then Adrian’s statement.
Could we use it?
Trust court ordered deposition after his criminal counsel negotiated scope.
He invoked privilege or Fifth Amendment on some questions.
But had already made admissions.
Through cooperation agreement, certain statements became available later.
For now:
Limited.
Then family politics.
Half my relatives believed Genevieve.
Why?
Because they disliked Adrian.
He was an outsider.
A lawyer.
Perfect scapegoat.
Others believed she masterminded.
I did not care about belief.
I needed proof.
Then I made one mistake.
At family council meeting, my cousin asked:
“So when are we removing Genevieve?”
I said:
“When a judge gives me a legal reason.”
Good.
Then:
“Or when she gives me a personal one.”
Bad.
Naomi stared at me.
After meeting:
“Stop sounding like a mobster.”
“I am a mobster.”
“Not in my trust litigation.”
May you like
Fair.
That line probably prevented ten future mistakes.
