Chapter 9 - The confession transcript
Adrian eventually entered a guilty plea in his federal case.
Not for the Ravelle trust amendment specifically.
For falsifying certifications in an unrelated property transaction and one count involving false notarization.
As part of cooperation, he gave a sworn statement about other conduct.
The trust court obtained a certified transcript under agreement.
I read it alone.
Question:
“Did you create the document known as the 2019 Ravelle Family Settlement and Succession Amendment?”
Adrian:
“Yes.”
Question:
“Was it signed by Dominic Ravelle?”
“No.”
Question:
“Was Dominic alive when you created the version later produced as original?”
“No.”
There.
Then:
“Why create it?”
Long pause.
Adrian:
“Genevieve believed Dominic intended male-line control.”
“Did she ask you to forge her father’s signature?”
“No.”
That surprised me.
Then:
“What did she ask?”
“She asked me to reconstruct the amendment from the draft and ‘make it enforceable.’”
“Did you tell her that required fabrication?”
“I told her there was no executed copy.”
“Did she understand you intended to use copied signatures?”
Adrian:
“I don’t know what she understood.”
Annoying.
Then:
“Did you tell her afterward that the final document had been newly created?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
“Before she first showed Benedict’s counsel.”
There.
Then:
“What did she say?”
Adrian:
“She said, ‘If it says what Dad wanted, the date doesn’t matter.’”
That was the sentence.
Still:
Adrian’s testimony.
Cooperator.
Self-interested.
Need corroboration.
Then one text from Adrian to Genevieve the day before she first produced the amendment:
This cannot survive a serious forensic review.
Genevieve:
It only has to force Benedict to negotiate.
There.
That changed everything.
Not necessarily criminal guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
But civil intent became much clearer.
Then another:
Felix doesn’t need every share. He needs control. Benedict will trade control to keep Primrose’s economics untouched.
Adrian:
You’re playing with fraud.
Genevieve:
