Vanessa completed diversion successfully.

No repeat offense.

All classes attended.

Community service at a nonprofit furniture bank.

That detail seemed almost designed by a novelist.

It was assigned randomly based on availability.

She spent Saturdays sorting donated household goods for families moving out of shelters and temporary housing.

At first, she apparently hated it.

Then stayed as an occasional volunteer after her requirement ended.

Not redemption theater.

Something she chose.

Her assault case was dismissed under the diversion agreement after completion.

The incident remained documented in court records as applicable, but she did not receive a dramatic permanent felony conviction.

No jail.

Some relatives said:

“She got away with it.”

No.

She accepted responsibility under the process offered for a first misdemeanor offense with limited injury.

Justice is not only incarceration.

The civil side?

There was none.

I did not sue.

Caleb had no significant medical damages.

I was not interested in creating a monetary contest around the thing Vanessa had already turned into money.

Eric agreed.

Vanessa reimbursed the urgent-care copay voluntarily through counsel.

That was the only money I accepted from her.

No pain-and-suffering jackpot.
