part 1

PART 1
“On the second day of marriage, he slapped his wife for asking his sister to wash dishes… then she revealed who actually owned his family’s mansion.”
Ava Vale hit the rug so hard the coffee table shook.
For three seconds, nobody in the Cole family living room moved.
Not Daniel, her husband of forty-eight hours.
Not Margaret, his mother, standing near the fireplace in a red dress.
Not Vanessa, his younger sister, frozen beside a stack of dirty breakfast plates she had refused to touch.
Ava sat on the floor with one hand against her burning cheek.
Daniel stood over her, breathing hard.
“How dare you order my sister around?”
The room was bright with morning sun.
Large windows.
Neutral furniture.
Expensive rug.
A perfect rich family scene built around a woman on the floor.
Ava slowly lifted her eyes.
The pain was real.
The fear was not.
“Touch me again, and this marriage ends today.”
Daniel blinked.
He had expected crying.
Apology.
Shame.
He had not expected a warning.
Margaret stepped forward before he could answer.
Her voice was sharp with panic disguised as authority.
“Those cameras belong to us.”
She pointed toward the corner security camera above the built-in shelves.
Ava followed her finger.
Then she smiled once.
Small.
Cold.
“No.”
“They belong to me.”
The silence changed shape.
Vanessa’s face drained.
Daniel looked from the camera to Ava.
“What are you talking about?”
Ava reached into her skirt pocket and took out her phone.
Her thumb pressed one command.
Margaret moved as if to stop her.
Ava did not flinch.
The phone rang once on speaker.
Then a woman’s voice answered.
“All accounts are frozen, Ms. Vale.”
Daniel’s mouth opened.
Margaret’s hand dropped.
Vanessa backed away from the plates.
Ava rose slowly from the floor, one hand still on her cheek.
“You thought I married into this mansion.”
She looked around the room her signature had kept standing for years.
“You never asked who paid the mortgage after your family lost it.”
Daniel stared at her like she had started speaking another language.
Margaret whispered, “Ava…”
Ava turned to her mother-in-law.
“Second day of marriage.”

“And you already showed me why my father told me to keep everything in my name.”
