PART 1
“He threw $250 million at his wife to disappear… then called their son a burden, not knowing the child had already found the fraud.”
Cash rained across the marble floor of the Beverly Hills mansion like Nathan West believed money could replace shame.
Olivia stood near the grand staircase with one arm wrapped around their seven-year-old son.
Caleb pressed his face into her white silk blouse, silent as the bills slid around his sneakers.
Nathan stood in the center of the living room in a dark suit, breathing like a man offended by his own family.
Beside him, Vanessa Cross folded her arms over her burgundy dress and smiled as if the mansion had already learned her name.
Nathan pointed at the floor.
“There it is.”
“Two hundred fifty million dollars.”
“Take the money and take that burden with you!”
Caleb flinched.
Olivia’s hand tightened around his shoulder.
Her voice came out low.
“Never call my son that again.”
Nathan laughed.
“He barely speaks.”
“He counts window panels and remembers elevator codes.”
“He is not built for my world.”
Caleb slowly lifted his head.
His blue eyes were wet, but focused.
He looked past the cash.
Past Vanessa.
Past Nathan’s fury.
Toward the leather folder open on the coffee table.
The divorce settlement.
The corporate exhibits.
The contracts Nathan had been stupid enough to leave within Caleb’s sight.
Caleb spoke softly.
“Page twelve has the wrong contract number.”
Nathan froze.
Vanessa’s smile disappeared.
“What did he say?”
Caleb swallowed.
“The first page says contract 8-4-7-2-B.”
“Page twelve says 8-4-7-2-D.”
Olivia looked down at her son.
She knew Caleb saw details other people missed.
She knew numbers stayed in his mind like photographs.
She did not know he had seen that.
Vanessa stepped toward Nathan.
“Nathan…”
“Why does he know that?”
Nathan’s face drained of color.
Olivia turned her eyes toward him.
“Because he found the fraud you tried to hide.”
The room went quiet.
Not peaceful.
Dangerous.
Nathan looked at the money on the floor.
For the first time, it did not look like power.
May you like
It looked like evidence scattered too late.
