Chapter 11 - I TELL LOWRI I WAS WRONG

Dr. Evelyn told me not to unload adult guilt onto Lowri.
So I did not say:
Mommy warned me and Daddy failed her.
That would make a five-year-old carry my shame.
Instead:
“I should have listened better when you said you didn’t like people moving Mommy’s pictures.”
Lowri looked at me.
“You said Thomasin wants family too.”
“I did.”
“Was wrong?”
“Yes.”
She considered.
“Thomasin family?”
“Not the way we planned anymore.”
“Because album?”
“Because several choices she made.”
Then:
“Grandma?”
“She is still your grandmother.”
“Do I have to see?”
“Not alone. Not now.”
She relaxed.
Then:
“Mommy stays?”
“Yes.”
“Even if you marry?”
That sentence broke me.
“Even if someday I love someone else, Mommy is still your mommy.”
“And your wife?”
“She was my wife. Nothing changes that.”
“New wife mad?”
“No new wife gets to erase her.”
Good.
Not promise never to date.
Not ask Lowri permission for adult relationships.
Just boundary.
Then my counseling.
The diversion counselor asked:
“Why did you throw the engagement portrait?”
“Because Thomasin destroyed Lowri’s album.”
“Why not simply remove your daughter?”
“Because I wanted Thomasin hurt emotionally.”
“Did it work?”
“Yes.”
“Did it help Lowri?”
“No.”
Good.
Then:
“What happens next time someone destroys a photograph?”
“I leave. Preserve evidence. Address it later.”
“Boring?”
“My daughter thinks so.”
Counselor smiled.
Then Thomasin requested return of engagement ring.
Legally hers because gift in contemplation of marriage may be conditional depending state. Attorneys handled.
I did not use it as leverage.
She returned my family heirloom cufflinks? Separate.
We exchanged property through counsel.
No meeting.
Then Thomasin sent Lowri an apology letter.
Not allowed directly under no-contact? We could route via therapist.
Draft:
I am sorry I tore your album.
Good.
Then:
I was trying to help you move forward.
Bad.
Therapist rejected.
Second:
I tore your album because I was angry that you still wanted Mommy in family pictures. That was wrong.
Good.
Then:
I cut Mommy out of some photographs. Those pictures were yours and I had no right.
Good.
Then:
You did not make me do it.
Good.
Lowri chose not to hear it yet.
Fine.
Then Mother’s visitation case remained.
Child specialist recommended:
No unsupervised visits.
Possible therapeutic supervised contact only if Honora demonstrates she can support Lowri’s continuing bond with Carys and stop framing grief as disloyalty.
Mother objected initially.
Then withdrew objection.
Progress.
But she still wanted first visit soon.
I wanted none.

That was my own emotion.
The court would balance.
