PART 1

“She married a billionaire in a coma… then he opened his eyes the moment he heard her voice.”

Madeline Royce was still wearing the pale silver-white wedding dress when she walked into Christopher Vale’s hospital room.

There had been no music.

No aisle.

No kiss.

Only a judge, two attorneys, a medical ethics officer, and a billionaire heir who had not opened his eyes in nine months.

Now Christopher lay beneath a white hospital blanket in a luxury private suite above Manhattan, pale and still, an IV taped to his hand, a monitor beeping softly beside him.

Flowers filled the room like an apology no one meant.

Floor-to-ceiling windows showed the New York skyline glowing in cold daylight.

Madeline stood beside the bed and looked at the man she had just married without hearing him say yes.

Her throat tightened.

“I never wanted this marriage…”

Her hand pressed lightly against the blanket near his chest.

“But I need to know the truth.”

Nothing moved.

Then Christopher’s fingers twitched.

Madeline froze.

The tiny motion was so small she almost thought grief had invented it.

Then it happened again.

His hand shifted beneath the blanket.

Madeline leaned closer.

“Christopher?”

His eyelids trembled.

The monitor changed rhythm.

Madeline’s heart slammed against her ribs.

Slowly, painfully, Christopher Vale opened his eyes.

For one second, he looked lost.

Then his gaze found her.

His lips parted.

The voice that came out was barely more than air.

“Don’t trust Bradley.”

Madeline stopped breathing.

“Christopher… you can hear me?”

His hand closed around her wrist with sudden desperate strength.

His face tightened with fear.

“He caused the accident.”

The hospital room door opened sharply.

Bradley Vale stood in the doorway in a dark suit, polished, handsome, and suddenly pale.

His eyes moved from Christopher’s open eyes to Madeline’s wrist in his hand.

Then his face rearranged itself into control.

“Step away from him.”

Madeline straightened.

Her tears disappeared.

She stepped between Bradley and the hospital bed.

“No.”

Christopher’s grip weakened, but his eyes stayed open.

Bradley looked at her wedding dress.

Then at the monitor.

Then at the man he had expected never to speak again.
