PART 3

The camera system had been Dominic’s idea.

He said it was for security.

Victoria said wealthy homes required surveillance.

Natalie joked that cameras helped keep “the staff honest.”

Audrey never told them she had been the one who configured the backup storage after the first installer failed.

Dominic did not know the dining-room camera recorded audio.

Victoria did not know deleted clips stayed in the cloud for thirty days.

Natalie did not know the hallway camera caught her leaving Dominic’s guest suite at 2:14 a.m. wearing only his shirt and the red bra Audrey later found in the laundry room.

Audrey knew all of it.

Knowing did not make it easier.

Some nights she sat on the bathroom floor and watched the clips on mute because hearing his voice made her sick.

Dominic grabbing her wrist.

Dominic blocking the doorway.

Dominic calling her ungrateful.

Victoria watching.

Natalie laughing.

The worst clip was not the first slap.

It was the night Audrey cried at the kitchen sink after Dominic called her barren in front of his mother.

Victoria had stood behind him and said, “A useful wife gives heirs or obedience.”

Dominic did not correct her.

That was when Audrey understood the entire family was a locked room.

So she called Grace Holloway.

Grace was an old friend from Audrey’s compliance days.

Now she worked as a forensic accountant with federal fraud experience.

Audrey sent her the foundation records first.

Grace called back in twelve minutes.

“Do not confront them alone.”

Audrey laughed softly.

“I live with them.”

Grace’s voice lowered.

“Then you need police, not closure.”

Audrey wanted to report everything immediately.

Grace told her to wait until the evidence was complete.

“The money trail matters.”

“The abuse footage matters.”

“But if they can spin you as an unstable wife, they will.”

Audrey knew that was true.

Victoria had already begun calling family friends and saying Audrey was emotional.

Dominic had already told his lawyer she was “volatile.”

Natalie had already hinted that Audrey drank too much, though Audrey barely touched wine.

So Audrey prepared the scene they would not be able to control.

A formal family dinner.

A silver platter.

A table full of witnesses.

Police waiting outside the dining-room doors.

And Dominic’s temper, predictable as a clock.
