Chapter 4 - Three Days After DeathThomas sat inside a plain room with no windows.

A bandage covered one side of his head. His wrists were not visible.
The recording timestamp was genuine.
He looked directly into the camera.
“Evelyn, if you ever see this, Richard Vale failed to keep the agreement.”
Evelyn gripped the back of a chair.
“What agreement?”
The video continued.
Thomas said the crash was not random.
He had discovered that Hart Biomedical, the company he and Evelyn built, had been laundering money through Vale Foundation charities.
Richard did not create the scheme alone.
Several Hart executives participated.
Thomas planned to expose them.
Three days before the crash, Richard offered him a choice:
Disappear temporarily and preserve Evelyn’s life.
Or testify and place her in immediate danger.
Thomas refused.
Then the truck struck their car.
When he regained consciousness, Richard was beside him.
Dr. Rowan declared Thomas dead in public records and moved him to a private clinic.
“Why would he cooperate?” Ethan asked.
Thomas answered from the screen.
“They showed me Evelyn’s hospital room. They said one injection would end her recovery.”
Evelyn remembered the unexplained breathing crisis she suffered the night after the crash.
A nurse claimed it was a medication reaction.
Thomas continued.
“I signed temporary control of the company to Richard. In exchange, he promised to release me after the investigation cooled.”
He never returned.
The video ended with a warning.
“Do not trust the first person who tells you where I am.”
The screen went black.
Maya backed away from her phone.
“Why was that on my account?”
Ethan looked at Richard.
His father had become expressionless.
The police requested every device in the ballroom preserved.
Maya refused to surrender her phone until Lena warned her that destroying or withholding evidence could become a criminal matter.
The scheduled file had been uploaded six weeks earlier.
The sender used an encrypted Hart Biomedical server.
Only two active administrators remained.
Evelyn.
And Maya.
“I don’t know anything about the company,” Maya said.
Evelyn looked at her daughter.
“You sit on the family foundation board.”
“That is ceremonial.”
“Nothing about tonight is ceremonial.”
Maya had accepted a board position after Evelyn’s injury limited her public appearances. Richard recommended it, claiming Maya needed leadership experience.
Through that position, she gained access to dormant Hart systems without understanding their purpose.
Someone had used her credentials as a delivery channel.
The video may have been planted to destroy Richard if the trust plan failed.
Richard’s attorney attempted to end questioning.
Officer Daniel asked Rowan where Thomas had been treated.
Rowan refused.
Then paramedics arrived.
One recognized him.
“Dr. Rowan? I thought you lost your license.”
Rowan’s attorney interrupted.
The paramedic continued.
Rowan had been barred from practice after falsifying death records at a private rehabilitation facility in Vermont.
Evelyn knew the place.
Blackwater Recovery Center.
Her medical trust had paid millions to it after the crash.
The invoices claimed the money funded her rehabilitation.
She had never been there.
Thomas might have been kept inside using her name.
Maya looked toward Evelyn.
“Mom, I didn’t know.”
Evelyn heard fear in her voice.
Not remorse.
Not yet.
Then the ballroom’s giant presentation screen turned on by itself.
A live security feed appeared.
A man in formal clothes stood inside the underground garage beside the white Tesla.
He opened the rear compartment.
Evelyn’s discarded cane lay inside.
Maya had thrown it into the ditch.
Someone had recovered it before Evelyn reached the ballroom.
The man cut open the cane’s handle and removed a tiny storage capsule.
Ethan recognized him.
“That’s my brother.”
Julian Vale was supposed to be in London.

Instead, he was beneath the wedding venue stealing evidence hidden inside Evelyn’s cane.
👉 Thomas’s video pointed toward a private clinic, while Ethan’s brother secretly removed something Evelyn never knew had been concealed inside her cane.
