It used his voice, fingerprint pattern, private passphrase, and a pulse signature recorded from his medical watch.
The data could not have been gathered from ordinary surveillance alone.
Someone had copied it during Arturo’s heart attack seven months earlier.
The same heart attack that prompted Graham to add the emergency clause.
Dr. Shaw reviewed Arturo’s old medical record.
His symptoms resembled low-dose foxglove exposure.
Arturo had not suffered a natural cardiac event.
He had been poisoned too.
The emergency clause, medical monitoring, and biometric collection all began after the attack.
Eleanor had used Arturo’s hospitalization to clone his authorization identity.
Graham claimed he did not know the heart attack was induced.
Morales believed he was lying.
Either way, Eleanor now possessed a complete digital version of Arturo capable of opening gates, transferring aircraft, issuing hospital orders, and moving estate funds.
Arturo ordered every biometric authorization revoked.
The family companies froze.
Private aircraft were grounded.
Estate doors shifted to physical keys.
For the first time, the Santillán empire became deliberately inconvenient.
León approved.
“Machines made it easy for her to become you.”
Arturo looked toward him.
“You sound like Sofia.”
“She was usually right.”
A painful smile crossed Arturo’s face.
“Yes.”
Graham offered to help locate Eleanor in exchange for reduced charges.
He revealed a hidden command center beneath the Legacy Trust’s former office. Eleanor used it to maintain identity profiles and crisis simulations.
Police raided the site.
The main servers had been removed, but one terminal remained active.
It displayed two countdowns.

The second countdown ended at midnight.
Sofia’s two-heir amendment required León to accept his joint responsibility formally within seventy-two hours of its discovery. If he refused or failed to sign, control passed temporarily to an independent protector named in the sealed document.
No one had opened that section yet.
Arturo urged León not to sign until lawyers reviewed everything.
León understood the risk.
Signing might give him power Eleanor expected him to take.
Refusing might activate another hidden trustee.
Graham claimed the protector was Sofia herself because the document had been created before her death.
That made no legal sense unless she had named a foundation or representative under her name.
At 11:46 p.m., the sealed section was opened before Detective Morales and a judge.
The protector was not Graham.
Not Arturo.
Not Victoria.
It was Dr. Charles Mercer.
Mercer stared at the document.
“Sofia never told me.”
Arturo nearly attacked him.
Mercer swore he did not know Sofia chose him.
A recorded message accompanied the clause.
Sofia appeared on-screen, pale but composed.
“Charles failed me when I was ill. That is why he understands the cost of failing León and the child who comes after him.”
Mercer covered his mouth.
Sofia had not forgiven him.
She had made him responsible.
At midnight, León signed the joint-heir protection.
The second countdown stopped.
