Chapter 15 - THE NAME BENEATH THE GOLD RIBBON Independent genetic testing confirmed that Julián was Arturo’s biological son.

The result should have ended Eleanor’s final lie.
Instead, Dr. Shaw discovered an irregularity.
The hospital’s newborn sample and the current sample both matched Arturo—but they did not perfectly match each other.
One had been contaminated with DNA from another closely related infant.
The fertility clinic had created two viable embryos.
Arturo had been told only one survived.
Records for the second embryo disappeared before implantation.
Graham claimed ignorance.
Mercer had never treated the fertility clinic.
Victoria found payments from Golden Continuity to a private maternity center in Nevada.
Eleanor may have been implying that another Santillán infant existed.
Not a replacement for Julián.
A second child carrying the same paternal line.
Arturo refused to let speculation distract from the child before him.
Julián recovered steadily. His heart rhythm normalized. The synthetic monitoring capsule was gone. No new toxin appeared in his blood.
León remained beside him.
The distance between Arturo and his nephew did not disappear, but something more honest began replacing it. Arturo apologized without demanding forgiveness. León listened without pretending apology repaired Sofia’s death.
Graham was charged with fraud, conspiracy, obstruction, and crimes connected to Sofia’s medical neglect.
Dr. Mercer surrendered his license pending investigation and agreed to testify.
Victoria entered protective custody.
Eleanor remained missing.
The Golden Continuity accounts were frozen, though investigators believed substantial funds had already moved overseas.
For the first time, the nursery windows stood open.
The foxglove was gone.
Sunlight crossed the empty place beside the curtain.
Arturo held Julián while León gathered Sofia’s journal from the table.
A small object fell from between its final pages.
The missing gold-ribbon card.
Someone had placed it inside the journal after the greenhouse operation.
The front still read:
For the child who completes the line.
The back appeared blank.
León held it near the sunlight.
Faint writing emerged beneath the cream surface, activated by heat.
A sender’s name slowly became visible.
SOFIA SANTILLÁN
León stopped breathing.
“My mother didn’t send that plant.”
Arturo examined the handwriting.
It looked exactly like Sofia’s.
But beneath the name was a second line:
Delivered only when Arturo remembers the first nursery.
A soft mechanical sound came from behind the nursery wall.
The concealed lift opened by itself.
No one stood inside.
Only a fresh foxglove plant rested on the floor, tied with another gold ribbon.
This card carried no hidden name.
It carried a current hospital photograph of Julián sleeping.
Behind him, reflected in the dark monitor, stood a woman wearing Sofia’s bracelet.
Then the baby monitor activated.
A woman’s voice—soft, trembling, unmistakably familiar—filled the room.
“León, don’t let Arturo open the lower greenhouse vault.”
León stared at the speaker.
He had not heard that voice since the night his mother died.
Arturo moved toward the lift.
From somewhere beneath the estate, metal locks began opening one after another.
