Mercer denied arranging the escape.
His signature on Golden Continuity authorized physicians to certify “heir instability events.” Each event triggered payments.
Sofia’s symptoms generated three payouts.
The greenhouse fire generated the largest.
Julián’s collapse had activated an immediate transfer worth eighty million dollars.
The money moved before anyone identified the poison.

“Because you were afraid?”
“Because Graham promoted me.”
Her honesty was ugly but useful.
Victoria remembered meeting Edwin Voss after his supposed death. He appeared inside Graham’s office under another name and wore a prosthetic sixth finger during private demonstrations.
Graham used Edwin to test security weaknesses.
“He said if Edwin could enter as Arturo, enemies could too.”
Instead of protecting the estate, they developed methods for impersonating its owner.
Edwin later threatened to expose Golden Continuity.
Graham told Victoria his brother had been “handled.”
No one knew whether that meant killed, imprisoned, or paid.

They found medical supply invoices, surveillance data, and sealed family profiles. One file concerned León.
It predicted that if Julián suffered poisoning, León would recognize the plant, resist guards, and enter the bathroom.

“How could they know what I would do?” León asked.
Arturo looked ashamed.
The profile used school reports, therapy notes, and private recordings collected after Sofia’s death. Arturo had authorized monitoring because he feared León might run away or damage the estate.
