Vivian Hart entered the emergency wing like she owned grief.
Pearls at her throat.
Silver hair smooth.
Face pale with controlled outrage.
Two security guards blocked her before she reached Harper’s room.
Ethan stepped into the hallway.
For the first time in years, he did not move toward her with apology.
He stood still.
Vivian saw Serena behind him and smiled without warmth.
“So it is true.”
Ethan’s voice was flat.
“You hurt Harper.”
Vivian lifted one hand dramatically.
“She pulled away from me.”
“She fractured her wrist.”
“She was disobedient.”
Serena’s eyes flashed.
Ethan took one step forward.
“Do not call my daughter disobedient.”
Vivian’s expression changed.
There he was.
The man she had spent years training out of himself.
“You are letting that woman poison you again.”
Ethan looked back at Serena.
Then at Vivian.
“No.”
“She is the reason I can finally see clearly.”
Vivian laughed.
“She hid a pregnancy from you.”
Serena stepped forward.
“You threatened to take Harper if I told him.”
Vivian’s mouth snapped shut.
Ethan turned slowly.
“Say that again.”
Serena kept her eyes on Vivian.
“She came to the hospital.”
“She told me if I went near you or Harper, she would revive the custody petition.”
“She knew I was pregnant.”
Vivian whispered, “You cannot prove that.”
A voice came from behind the nurses’ station.
“Yes, she can.”
Everyone turned.
An older hospital attorney walked into the hallway holding a file.
Serena’s legal counsel.
“Mrs. Hart made her threat in a hospital corridor under active security recording.”
Vivian’s face drained of color.
Ethan stared at her.
“You threatened a pregnant woman to keep my child from me.”
Vivian’s eyes filled with fake grief.
“I was protecting Lauren’s memory.”
Ethan’s voice broke.
“No.”
“You were punishing me for surviving her.”
The hallway went silent.
Vivian flinched.
For the first time, Ethan had named the ghost she had been using as a weapon.
Harper’s small voice came from the room.
“Daddy?”
Ethan turned.
His daughter sat in the bed, frightened.
