Chapter 5 - The affair

Her name was Melissa Grant.
Thirty-three.
Hospitality marketing consultant.
Divorced.
No criminal mastermind.
No secret second wife.
No hidden baby.
I learned about her through hotel records after Daniel’s financial investigation widened.
But the affair began before the fake vendors.
That distinction mattered.
Daniel met Melissa at a trade conference in Nashville.
They started texting.
Then meeting.
Fourteen months.
Maybe fifteen.
He paid for some rooms personally.
Some through company travel.
Some through reimbursements disguised as vendor meetings.
The affair cost money.
But not enough to explain the fake-vendor totals.
That disappointed people who wanted one clean motive.
Daniel had not stolen a quarter-million dollars solely to fund expensive weekends with another woman.
The affair was one leak in a larger financial structure.
Hotel charges gave investigators a map.
Not the destination.
Melissa eventually cooperated through her own lawyer.
She had believed Daniel and I were “functionally separated.”
A lie.
She knew he was married.
She claimed he said we had separate lives and were waiting until after his mother’s health issues to divorce.
Also a lie.
I never met Melissa face-to-face.
I did not need to.
The woman did not hit me.
May you like
The man who promised me fidelity did.
That became important because rage tries to choose easier targets.
