Chapter 10 - The Witness Behind the Curtain

The elderly witness’s identity was not revealed.

The old will remained hidden.

The six complete witness statements were not shown.

No police arrest appeared.

No final legal outcome arrived.

The story ended on the porch of the upper-class Columbus mansion, with warm afternoon sunlight over the brick steps, rose bushes, white columns, the utility truck in the driveway, and the damaged smartphone lying cracked beside the fallen red brick.

Wyatt knelt on the porch, holding Sadie securely against his chest.

Her pale-blue dress was rumpled, her face dazed, a thin non-graphic streak near her eyebrow and lip, her hand weakly gripping his sleeve.

His navy suit was creased from catching her, his jaw locked with explosive fury as he shielded her from her family.

Gregory stood above them, the brick no longer in his hand, his face grotesquely pale as he stared toward the living-room window.

Brenda’s cruel smile had collapsed completely.

Melanie recoiled toward the doorway, arms no longer crossed, eyes stretched wide with fear.

The electrician stood beside his utility truck with his phone raised, recording everything, his voice still hanging in the air.

“Drop that brick! I’m calling an ambulance!”

Behind the partly closed curtain, the elderly man pressed one trembling hand to the glass.

He did not open the door.

He did not reveal who he was.

He did not explain what he had seen before this moment.

But Gregory recognized him.

That recognition was enough to turn rage into panic.

Sadie stared weakly toward the window.

Wyatt held her tighter.

The porch remained frozen between the attack that had just happened and the secret that had not yet been spoken.

And as Gregory’s face drained of all color, everyone understood the hidden witness had seen far more than a single strike.
