Chapter 4 - Gregory Against the Wall
Gregory tried to move around Wyatt again.
This time Wyatt turned with him, explosive and controlled, driving Gregory backward until his shoulders struck the hospital wall.
Not a punch.
Not a fight.
A barrier.
Gregory’s fists clenched at his sides, neck tendons tight, nostrils flaring as he stared at the man protecting his daughter.
“You think you can stand between me and my blood?”
Wyatt’s jaw ground so hard the muscle jumped.
“I’m standing between her and the people who made her afraid to wake up.”
Gregory’s face twisted.
Sadie closed her eyes.
That sentence reached somewhere too deep.
Melanie snapped, “You don’t know what she did.”
Wyatt did not look away from Gregory.
“I know what I saw when I walked into this room.”
Melanie’s confidence faltered.
The nurses held her back without touching her hard.
Outside the room, more people gathered near the nurses’ station.
Not random onlookers.
Witnesses.
A paramedic in uniform.
Another paramedic beside him.
A man in work boots and a utility jacket, likely the electrician.
Two others partly hidden behind the attorney.
A hospital staff member standing still with a clipboard.
Six shadowed figures.
No full statements revealed.
No details.
Only their presence.
Gregory saw them and his rage shifted.
For one second, fear moved through him.
Wyatt caught it.
Sadie caught it.
The attorney caught it too.
Brenda whispered, “Gregory.”
Her voice no longer sounded cruel.
It sounded warning.
Gregory pushed off the wall.
Wyatt stayed close enough to stop him if he lunged again.
The attorney opened his sealed folder just enough to show several witness tabs, unreadable but organized.
Gregory stared at the tabs.
His color drained one shade.
Sadie raised the evidence bag again.
“Preserve everything they touched.”
The attorney nodded once.
“I will.”
Brenda recoiled as if the promise itself had struck her.
Melanie finally uncrossed her arms completely.
Her entitlement had nowhere to sit now.
The room had changed from confrontation to record.
