No infants had been harmed. Nathan had locked himself inside a staff room beside the neonatal wing and threatened to disable oxygen controls if officers approached.
Dr. Wells confirmed the controls could be overridden manually.
Nathan demanded Gideon’s phone and safe passage out of the building.
Quinn refused.
Rebecca asked to speak with him.
“You nearly killed me.”
“I followed the model.”
“What model?”
“The recovery model.”
Nathan described a system developed years earlier by Redstone Capital. It identified family-owned medical companies whose controlling shareholders could be removed through temporary incapacity.

A physician or hospital administrator created a diagnosis.

Olivia joined the call.
“Gideon planned to kill you.”
Silence followed.
Olivia described the message ordering police not to take him alive.
Nathan’s breathing changed.
He opened the staff-room door and surrendered.
No oxygen controls had been damaged.
Inside the room, police found Gideon’s missing backup phone. Nathan stole it from the board chairman during the ambulance operation.
He had never needed officers to bring it.
