Chapter 14 - THE TRANSFER REBECCA CHOSE Dr. Wells wanted to leave the hospital and search for his sister.

Detective Quinn stopped him.

“That is what Marcus expects.”

The photograph contained no location data. Its background showed a concrete wall, metal shelving, and a red emergency light.

Emily recognized the shelving system from Brookhaven Recovery’s pharmacy.

Police raided the facility again.

Wells’s sister was not there.

But the pharmacy contained a hidden recording studio used to generate false medical calls. Redstone had copied physicians’ voices for years.

The photograph had been taken inside the room weeks earlier.

Wells’s sister had attended Brookhaven as a consultant and did not know she was being photographed.

She was safe at home.

Marcus used an old image to create immediate panic.

The method worked because fear filled missing details faster than evidence.

Rebecca understood that better than anyone.

She decided to leave the hospital—not because Caleb demanded it, but because the building remained compromised.

Dr. Wells approved transfer to a secure university medical center unrelated to Brookhaven, Hartwell, or Redstone.

The destination remained confidential.

Emily checked the ambulance herself.

Quinn assigned armed officers.

Rebecca’s chart traveled in a sealed case handcuffed to a detective.

The heart-monitor data, security footage, visitor logs, IV records, and photographs were duplicated across independent systems.

Before departure, Rebecca asked Emily to bring the original bedrail from the room.

Emily smiled faintly.

“The bedrail?”

“My fingerprints are on it. Caleb’s are too.”

The hospital removed it as evidence.

Caleb had tried to pry her fingers away.

The rail preserved the marks of her refusal.

As staff moved Rebecca onto the transport stretcher, pain surged through both casts. She breathed through it and looked toward the room where Caleb expected her to surrender.

He had called her a financial burden.

He had claimed her broken body cost him too much.

In reality, he feared the price of her surviving.

The ambulance left through a guarded underground exit.

No suspicious vehicle followed.

The route changed twice.

Rebecca reached the university center safely.

Gideon, Caleb, Olivia, and Nathan remained in custody. Each had begun negotiating separately.

Marcus Vane was still missing.

Federal agents froze Redstone accounts and warned hospitals nationwide about the recovery network.

For the first time, the organization became visible.

That night, Emily called Rebecca from the original hospital.

“We found something inside the visitor-log station.”

A thin memory card had been taped beneath the printer.

It contained video from the night Evelyn died.

The angle showed a maintenance worker entering her room with a medical case.

Before the man covered the camera, his face appeared.

Rebecca did not recognize him.

Olivia did.

“That’s not my father,” she said.

“Then who is it?” Quinn asked.

Olivia stared at the screen.

“My brother.”

Marcus Vane had another child.

A son named Adrian, who disappeared twenty years earlier after a boating accident.

Like Olivia’s child, no body had been publicly identified.

Adrian may have administered the drug that killed Evelyn and later inherited the recovery network’s physical operations.

Marcus designed the system.

Adrian enforced it.

Olivia provided access.

The conspiracy was not controlled by one missing man.
