Chapter 7 - THE WOMAN WHO BORROWED REBECCA’S FACEO livia Crane left the hospital wearing a dark wig, Rebecca’s stolen employee badge, and a surgical mask.
A parking camera captured her driving away in Nathan Price’s car.
She had prepared the disguise before Caleb entered the room.
Inside Olivia’s office, police found photographs of Rebecca from multiple angles, recordings of her voice, and copies of her signature.
The conspiracy did not rely only on forged documents.
Olivia had built a temporary version of Rebecca capable of approving digital transactions.
At 4:12 a.m., a video call was made to Hartwell’s corporate bank. A masked woman identified herself as Rebecca and authorized the release of eighty million dollars into an escrow account connected to the Redstone sale.
The bank employee accepted the call because the woman answered private security questions.
Only Gideon, Caleb, and Rebecca knew those answers.
Caleb blamed Gideon.
Gideon blamed Nathan.
Rebecca remembered answering similar questions while sedated during one of the hospital visits.
Olivia may have recorded her.
The transfer remained pending until the board vote.
Detective Quinn convinced the bank to freeze it for twelve hours.
After that, Redstone could challenge the hold in court using the forged power of attorney.
Rebecca needed to appear before the board herself.
Dr. Wells refused to discharge her.
“You are still bleeding internally.”
“Then bring the meeting here.”
Hartwell’s emergency board session took place through a secure video connection inside Rebecca’s hospital room.
Gideon appeared from an attorney’s office after being temporarily released pending charges. His lawyers argued that Rebecca lacked capacity because of medication.
Dr. Wells testified that she was oriented, informed, and capable.
Emily produced the original medication chart proving unauthorized sedatives caused the earlier confusion.
Rebecca faced the board.
“Caleb forged my authority. Gideon approved a transfer designed to hide fraudulent loans. Redstone bribed hospital employees to remove me before this vote.”
Gideon leaned toward his camera.
“You have no evidence I knew about violence.”
“I have evidence you knew I would be drugged and declared incompetent.”
“That is interpretation.”
Rebecca opened the audit.
Payments appeared across every board member’s screen.
One transaction came from Gideon’s private trust to Nathan two hours before the crash.

Vehicle contingency.
Gideon’s face changed.
The board suspended him and canceled the Redstone sale.
The eighty-million-dollar transfer stopped.
For a moment, Rebecca believed the central danger had passed.
Then the heart monitor beside her bed went blank.
The IV pump switched off.
The security doors at both ends of the corridor locked.
An automated voice announced a hospital fire emergency.
Dr. Wells checked the wall panel.
“No fire alarm was triggered.”
Emily looked toward the open room door.
The corridor lights had changed from white to red.
A private ambulance crew appeared beyond the glass security doors, pushing an empty stretcher.
