Chapter 24 - Bram chooses the photograph At seven, Bram’s school asked families to submit photographs for a classroom project.

My family.

He chose one from the wedding.

Not the professional portrait.

A guest’s phone picture.

Me kneeling beside him.

Bow tie crooked.

Alaric walking toward us.

Sabine visible in the background holding the seating chart.

Cordelia was outside the frame.

I asked:

“Why that one?”

“Because everybody looks mad.”

“That is an unusual reason.”

“It’s funny.”

Children reclaim memories in ways adults cannot design.

Then he changed his mind.

He chose a picture from the next Christmas instead.

All three of us on the couch.

Wheelchair in front.

Molly the family dog trying to steal wrapping paper.

No formal composition.

Nobody symmetrical.

He said:

May you like

“This one looks more family.”

I agreed.
