Chapter 26 - The Hartwell portraitTwo years and eleven months after the wedding, Helena organized a family photograph for Cordelia’s sixty-second birthday.
Cordelia did not organize it herself.
That was wise.
She asked everyone one question beforehand:
“Do you want to do this?”
Bram said yes.
The photographer arranged three seated adults in front.
Others behind.
Bram chose his own position near Alaric.
Cordelia stood beside him.
Then the photographer said:
“Cordelia, if you shift six inches left, we can balance the composition.”
She moved.
No one moved Bram.
The final photograph was not symmetrical.
It was excellent.
Cordelia later ordered a large print.
Wheelchair entirely visible.
She hung it in her living room.
When we visited, Bram noticed.
“You can see my whole chair.”
Cordelia said:
“Yes.”
“Why?”
She thought before answering.
