She entered through the police entrance with rain dripping from her coat and Daniel’s blood on one sleeve.
“He is alive,” she said.
“Where?” Elena demanded.
“Safe.”
“You removed him from an active crime scene.”
“The vehicle belonged to BrightForge security.”
“Where is Daniel?”
“He will come when the server copies are verified.”
Samantha stood.
“Your fingerprints are on the magnets.”
Alicia looked at Nancy’s closed hospital door.
“I coated the first six.”
Samantha crossed the room before Elena could stop her.
“You touched the objects placed inside my child?”
“I believed they would never reach her.”
“Then why coat them?”
“To document Brandon’s protocol.”
Daniel and Alicia had infiltrated BrightForge’s prototype process. They prepared six traceable samples with microscopic identifiers, intending to replace Brandon’s test magnets before he used them in laboratory equipment.
Brandon discovered the switch.
He took their coated samples and gave them to Evelyn for Nancy.
“He turned our evidence into the crime,” Alicia said.
“You knew after the first night.”
“I suspected.”
“And said nothing.”
“Daniel insisted we needed proof of Brandon’s direct involvement.”
“Every person in this story thinks my daughter’s pain becomes acceptable when called evidence.”
Alicia lowered her eyes.
“You’re right.”
The words did not absolve her.
Samantha asked why Alicia took the nanny job.
Leonard recruited her before his death. Afterward, Daniel contacted her and revealed he was alive. They built a private case because the Vale family controlled police donors, hospital boards, and company regulators.
Alicia installed the camera.
She copied files.
She stayed near Nancy.
Yet when the experiment began, she hesitated to alert Samantha because Daniel wanted Brandon caught in the act.
Their delay allowed thirty-one additional magnets to reach the child.
Dr. Hart joined them.
“Intentions do not change tissue damage.”
Alicia began crying.
“I know.”
Elena asked about Daniel’s fingerprints.
He handled the original six samples with Alicia.
The remaining magnets carried only Brandon’s and Evelyn’s prints.
Forensics could separate the roles.
Daniel was not the person who administered them.
He was still responsible for withholding warning.
Evelyn sat beside the wall.
“My entire family calls silence protection.”
Samantha turned.
“You taught them.”
Evelyn accepted the accusation.
The missing server drives confirmed BrightForge had conducted unauthorized trials. They also contained payments to hospital board members, including the chief administrator of Dr. Hart’s medical center.
Someone inside the hospital had supplied Brandon with real-time updates on Nancy’s surgery.
The administrator received a message after the thirty-seventh magnet was found.
Capsule recovered. Initiate maternal psychiatric protocol.
Within minutes, a hospital psychiatrist attempted to access Samantha’s chart.
A draft evaluation claimed she showed paranoid delusions about a family conspiracy.
The document was created before the psychiatrist met her.
Brandon planned another route.
If Samantha could not be blamed for the ingestion, she could be discredited after discovering it.
Dr. Hart locked her chart.
Elena stationed an officer beside the records department.
The hospital administrator, Thomas Bell, disappeared before police reached his office.
His computer contained a scheduled custody report naming Evelyn as Nancy’s emergency guardian.
Even after Evelyn’s involvement became visible, the system still intended to transfer the child to her.
Then Evelyn’s attorney arrived with a sealed family document.
Daniel’s birth had not been hidden only to protect the Vale reputation.
He was legally listed as Nancy’s alternate guardian through an amendment signed by Leonard Cole.
Samantha stared.
